Who we are · Why we serve

Our mission.
Our future.

Our work begins with culture and grows through every generation that chooses to carry it forward.

01 / Our mission

Preserve what grounds us. Build what comes next.

The Cape Verdean Santiago Society is a nonprofit organization that promotes culture and diversity while preserving the history and positive values of Cape Verdean people in Norwich, Connecticut, and surrounding communities.

Through a collaborative spirit, we work to Inspire, Elevate, and Empower our community.

02 / Our vision

A connected community where Cape Verdean heritage lives, young people lead, and every generation belongs.

We envision the Society once again serving as a trusted cultural and community anchor—not through one building, but through people, programs, partnerships, and welcoming places across Norwich. Elders share their stories. Youth find mentors and opportunities. Families celebrate together. New generations know where they come from and feel prepared to shape what comes next.

03 / What guides us

Three words.
One shared responsibility.

01

Inspire

Awaken pride and curiosity through Kriolu, history, music, food, art, storytelling, and celebration.

02

Elevate

Honor the voices of elders, recognize community contributions, and create space for Cape Verdean stories to be seen and heard.

03

Empower

Give young people meaningful ways to lead, serve, learn from mentors, explore careers, and strengthen their community.
